What are we doing? Wake up to the sin of idleness

This powerful message confronts us with a sneaky spiritual danger that affects nearly all of us: the sin of idleness. Drawing from Proverbs 6:6-11 and 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15, we're challenged to examine whether we're truly living out our calling or merely existing in a state of spiritual lethargy. The ancient monastics called it 'acedia'—the noonday demon—a profound listlessness that causes spiritual boredom and apathy. What makes this message particularly convicting is how it distinguishes between being genuinely busy and being a 'lazy busy' person who fills time with distractions while avoiding God's actual calling. We learn that idleness isn't neutral—like a car left idling, it wastes fuel without moving us forward. The parable of the unprofitable servant in Matthew 25 reminds us that fear can paralyze us into inaction, causing us to bury our talents rather than invest them for God's kingdom. The call is clear: wake up to the day of salvation, recognize where comfort has replaced commitment, and actively serve the Lord with intentionality. Whether we're electricians, teachers, parents, or retirees, we each have a pastoral role in sharing the gospel through our daily lives. The question becomes: when Christ returns, what will we say we did with what He invested in us?
