It's Scary, not hard!
It’s Scary, Not Hard
In Luke 5:1–11, Jesus steps into Simon Peter’s boat and asks him to put out into deep water and let down the nets again. Peter had just finished a long, fruitless night of fishing—he was tired, discouraged, and certain there were no fish to be caught. Yet, at Jesus’ word, he obeyed. The result was overwhelming: nets so full they began to break. In that moment, Peter realized who was in the boat with him—and it terrified him. The fear wasn’t of the work itself; it was the weight of realizing what obedience to Jesus truly meant.
Following Christ isn’t always hard in terms of physical effort—it’s scary because it calls us out of comfort and control. Like Peter, we’re asked to trust Jesus beyond our understanding and to step into deeper waters where faith must replace certainty. When we do, we experience God’s power and purpose in ways we never imagined. The call to follow Him—“from now on you will fish for people”—remains the same today. It’s not hard work that stops us; it’s often the fear of surrender. But Jesus reminds us: trust Me, and I will fill your nets.
